This is the fifth in a series of posts for paid subscribers only. I will be reviewing all of the books I’m reading for my ongoing podcast series American Guerrillas on Bleeding Kansas and the Kansas-Missouri border war. These reviews will serve as a perk for paid subscribers, plus act as a partial bibliography of sorts for the podcast series.

Well part 4 of the podcast is taking me longer than I expected initially, and it’s been a little while since I did one of these reviews, so I figured I should knock one out. Rest assured part 4 is coming along though.

I don’t remember what got me started thinking about the religious aspects of the Civil War in the first place, but The Civil War as a Theological Crisis is the book I found to tie together some of the threads I’d been thinking about.
